I always wondered where the term "cob web" came from too! I always just call them spider webs but my family always called them cob webs. I'd be interested to find out the origin of the term!

... I have no idea. Age, perhaps? I've been under the impression that a cobweb is doesn't come from spiders, or are just the remains of old spider webs that have accumulated a fine coat of dust and lint and other airborne debris. I dunno.

A spider web is a term for a web created by a spider to catch prey. A cobb web is basically the same thing only the web is created speciiclly for the cobb spider.

Cobweb is the Middle English term for a spider web which is derived from the word 'coppe' which means spider. Commly these days 'Cobwebs' are what people call spiderwebs that have been abandoned & are accumliating dust.. A spiderweb refers to a fresh web (With a spider on it)
