  • There are so many vague verses in the Qu'ran, that, with some imagination, could be applied to pretty much every phenomenon. Yes, I have looked at the claims, and it isn't nearly convincing. However, I'd say that the Bible is even more absurd than the Qu'ran when it comes to Genesis. It would be an interesting to read the Bible and come up with some 'scientific facts' by interepreting the verses. I'm looking forward to other answers here.

  • Neither of these books tries to be scientific. Surah 13 (for example) appears to talk about a flat earth: 13:3 And He it is Who spread out the earth and placed therein firm hills and flowing streams, and of all fruits He placed therein two spouses (male and female). He covereth the night with the day. Lo! herein verily are portents for people who take thought.
  • Isaiah 40:22 "He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in." Job 26:7 "He stretches out the north over empty space And hangs the earth on nothing." In both of these scriptures the bible harmonizes accurately with modern science. The Heavens (space) expanding and earth hanging on nothing. Keep in mind that when these scriptures were written the ancient beliefs held that the earth was flat and sitting upon something. And no real clue as to what was above in the Heavens. This certainly separates the bible from any other book before its time and even after. There is no place were the bible disagrees with modern scientific fact. There is more like the description of the water cycle and hygiene.
  • 1) "Prophecies are predictions of future events. There are literally hundreds of them scattered throughout the Bible. Two books: Daniel from the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and Revelation from the Christian Scriptures (New Testament) are perhaps the most important prophetic books in the Bible. There is no consensus about the accuracy of Bible prophecies: Many conservative Christians believe that hundreds of Bible prophecies have precisely come true in exact detail. The remainder will be fulfilled in our future. None have actually failed. Some religious liberals and skeptics maintain that no "real" biblical prophecy has ever come true. The gap between these two positions appears unbridgeable. " Source and further information: http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_prop.htm 2) And as we very well know, Muslim scholars have propagated the idea of the Big Bang with utter engagement since the eight century in all Islamic schools of astrophysics... More seriously, I don't think that we can and should base the least of our scientific theories on those texts (Bible or Qu'ran). They have just nothing to do with science. However, there were some great contributions made by the followers of many religions to the cultural - and also scientific - heritage of humanity. This includes, among others, Islam, Christianity and Judaism. See also this answer: http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/4893295
