Absolutely...the elderly can be extremely dangerous on the roads when they become weak and their senses begin to dull
-
Yes, my grandad has almost caused 4 accidents this year alone! Better safe than sorry
-
I have always stated that once an individual hits the age of 60 that there reflexs are not as they once were and sound be tested annualy.
-
Yes. Unless you own a GREAT big ranch and have paid for the road you are driving on, you only have the privilege of driving on it if the rest of the people--who have paid for it--grant you that privilege. And they have the right to demand that you prove your capability of driving without endangering them. Since it doesn't cost a cent extra for elderly drivers to prove that they can see adequately, they shouldn't object to an extra two minute eye test when they renew.
-
I think that everyone should have to send in a copy of the results of an eye test on a regular basis.
-
yes however its not only people aged 65 who should have annually eye checks ups, remember anyones vision can deterate at any age, i agree every driver no matter who should be made to send a copy of their sight test to DVLA maybe then people would sit up and take vision seriouly its not only ourselfves at risk but other riad users too and pedestraiants.
-
not a bad idea, question is,are you willing to pay for it?
-
I don't see anything wrong with them being tested, but aren't we focusing on the wrong age group here? Hardly any accidents are caused by older people, its all the young idiots with led foots that are the problems.
-
Yes. And retake the test every year after that.
-
No,for instance my dad is 86 and is just efficient at driving as he was when he was in his twenties.I have many relatives that drive, very well, and are over 65.It is age discrimination to think that age would necessarily affect driving. That is a misnomer.Where I live there is no such regulations, and one just keeps renewing without a test.
-
I just looked at mine (I'm 65)and it says it's good for another 5 years. I do not believe that is out of line. If I was having problems that could impact my driving I would consider being re-tested. My Mother-In-Law actually took a series of driving lessons specifically for older drivers a few years ago, when she was 80.
-
Maybe in the 70tys but not 65. Funny I have seen many accidents in my life time only one was an elderly person. Most the accidents I have seen were teenagers. If we are talking keeping the streets safe maybe we should be making the teens take a driving test every year until they get the hang of it.

I don't know where you live, but here in Pennsylvania it's been a requirement for over 30 years. Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering it! VTY, Ron Berue Yes, that is my real last name! Sources: Because you asked. A little factoid I remembered. A little stroll down "Memory Lane"
-
i honestly think you should have to at least be reevaluated or something on a 10 year basis. then nobody complains about discrimination and the roads are still safe
-
No. Older people are much more cautious while driving than the youngsters. Drivers Test certificate is not a testimony of good or bad driving.
