In an ideal democracy, what would be the best party names and policies? (i.e. Can you think of anything better than "Republicans", "Democrats", etc.?)

There is a small town here where many dumped the whole Republican/Democrat thing for local politics, and came up with a name that I believe is either the name of the town or the like, and has its town and its citizens in its best interests. They won the last couple elections big time. I believe that just one on the council is still a part of a major affiliated party. It would be nice to have The American Party, but just too unrealistic to get 300,000,000 to agree on every issue.
