  • cuz no one is doing it for the reward/glory, just to find out more about the natural world
  • Because a group of minds make the work more acceptable and they are also more liable to get grants to continue with their research.
  • That's what a scientist does. When a scientist discovers something, it is submitted to the rest of the scientific community for review. That's why they get funding. If they just kept everything to themselves, they wouldn't be getting funded.
  • Remember the classical allegory of the six blind men describing an elephant? Each man felt one part of the animal, then based his description on his own limited findings. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blind_Men_and_an_Elephant A lone research scientist studying a subject is limited. If many scientists share their findings, they will have a larger pool of data to analyze. Sometimes this will lead to the solution of a problem sooner than a single researcher working alone.
  • i would like to know why more of them do not share their findings or invent false findings for money
  • Part of the scientific method is the idea of Peer review; it's a handy way of verifying your findings and making sure your conclusions are appropriate given the method you've used. Some scientists don't share and choose to make their findings public very quickly, with little regard for the peer review process. A good example of this was Andrew Wakefield, who put forward his theory of connection between autism and the MMR jab straight to the media. A rather public peer review process that followed has shown his conclusions to be complete hooey.
