I am in the process of finding a new racquet myself and it has been very helpful for me to go to a club and rent or borrow a demo model. The new racquets vary from stiff to flexible much like the shaft on golf clubs so using a racquet is the only way to tell without seeking out a pro.

Light weight Make sure the handgrip matches your hand size and that's it....

I think when shopping for a new racquet it helps to know what you're looking for in a racquet (e.g. power, control, stability) to improve your game. Many pro tennis shops allow for racquet demos, so whatever feels right I recommend to be a good buy. Shopkeepers typically are helpful in helping you narrow down your choices as well so you aren't completely blind to the process. A comfortable grip is important; racquets with a larger head size tend to give you more power while a smaller head size gives you more control; you will also find that a racquet that is head-heavy will have more power, so that generating hits with more pace and depth will seem more effortless while head-light racquets will require a player to provide power through his stroke. Also keep in mind that racquets with smaller grips can be built up to fit your hand with an overgrip, while grips that are too large cannot be reduced.

A grip, size, and weight you are comfortable with. Spend only what you are willing to spend on it. Don't overspend, and if you are willing to spend a good amount of money, get a racquet that will last a long time, as some cheap ones can get bent and lopsided in not very much time.

it depends on what you want do you want control or power? for a raquet with more control get a handle heavy raquet...they'll usually have a smaller head too i think if you want a power raquet get one that has a large head and high power level, prince are good power raquets you also want to make sure that the grip fits your hand properly and there should be a measuring thing there to tell you what size would be good for your hand size
