  • Different vets have different opinions on this matter, You will need to wait until she is finished feeding the kits - how long after depends on who you talk too. Females tend to undergo lots of chemical changes, while they are lactating (making milk) they tend to not be prone too pregnancy. In the case of cats she will not go into heat until after producing milk. This works to keep her from being over burdened with too many kittens inside and out side of the the womb to tend to. As for how long after weening some say 2 weeks, some say 2 months. I would suggest you call your vet and discuss with him/her your options and how they feel about the matter and how they view the hormonal balances of the cat as being important to the time of spaying.
  • how often can cats get pregnant and how soon after giving birth
  • Yes she can. It is safe to have her spayed from when the kittens are 5 weeks old, onwards - just ask for a flank-spay. This is done on the side rather than throught the belly - is less stressful on mummy puss and will not affect her milk supply, therefore she can be back and feeding her kittens the next day. Healing time seems to be faster too. Being that your kittens are now 7 weeks old and far more boisterous than 5 week olds, I'd be careful they werent too rough on poor Mum when they were feeding tho.
