I have nothing at all against POW's... Just so you all know that. I say this with respect for them and hope that if anyone here has gone through it, that that they might instead decide to think about what I mean by this, considering their own experiences... He spent 5 years as an enemy captive dealing with God knows what? Should we make him president?

It's just you. McCain's experience makes him far more qualified to judge military matters than anyone else running. Unlike Obama, who thinks the US Military is only supposed to look nice and not actually DO anything, McCain knows that sometimes you have to use the stick instead of the carrot. Furthermore, he knows exactly what those soldiers could face, because he faced it himself. I'd be scared of someone who DIDN'T serve in some way.

I see where you're coming from but our fellow POW's will disagree. I don't know any better than they do, so I will not make a judgmental statement to undermine their efforts or aspirations for their country. However, I would rather see a man with economical experience than a man who has been to war. Although great people who sacrificed a lot for their citizens, soldiers can not always be trusted to make a moral decision. You know that if you have been a soldier. Good question nonetheless :).

we really don't need a military man as president. that's what the joint chiefs of staff are for, that's what the secretary of the army, navy, air force are for. we need a man that can make some financial decisions. mccain has already said he has no clue how to make those decisions. the choice should be obvious now. ;)

The one thing that impresses me the most about his time as a POW is that the North Vietnamese actually released him because he was the son of the John S. McCain, the commander of all U.S. forces in Vietnam. (The North Vietnamese only released him to appear merciful. It was a p.r. move). He turned it down unless all of the other POW's who had been there longer than him were released first. Because of this, he was ruthlessly beaten and tortured even more by the North Vietnamese. I know you probably know all of this, but nonetheless, it does say something about his character (IMO).

Having to get the president from under the table in the daily cabinet meetings would get old very quickly................

I personally do not trust McCain's judgment and feel that he is far from a maverick but just more republican rhetoric. When he joined the forces he took the same chances as his fellow soldiers. That was his job,and though it is more dangerous it is no more important than being a clerk in a store. It makes no sense to call someone a hero because he was caught by the apposing forces the the one that were not caught are ignored .

The fact that we don't know the whole story concerning McCain being a POW disturbs me more than his actually being one. -

I don't trust Senator McCain or his judgment, he has none. It will affect us all we can not and should not sink because some thugs took what was not theirs. If you want to know what others in his surroundings think, check the enclosed info and link: "Matthews Blames Bailout Crash on McCain's Failed Leadership Chris Matthews points to John McCain's failure to provide the leadership that he promised -- and took credit for: McCain said he was going to lead the Republican charge, he was going to make sure that this was a bipartisan success...he called charge, and the Republicans retreated. That's what happened here". http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/29/matthews-on-mccains-faile_n_130309.html

It's just you!

I can understand the tone of the question, but I suspect that nothing any president is "spontaneous". Every decision is discussed and dissected at length and as such any "questionable" decisions will be caught and neutralized before they see the light of day. I'm still not gonna vote for him though.

I've been worried about that too. Tests and doctors may say he's okay, but being a POW can do some pretty intense mental things to you - it makes me wonder how he'd respond if we were ever threatened or attacked again like 9/11. Would he handle it rationally or would a desire for revenge take over?

it show's he's a stand up guy and that's what i want in a president
