There is a new type of technology around the corner, called SED. Here is a little more info on it: "Plasma and LCD HDTVs may soon be sharing shelf space at your local electronics store with a new flat panel technology called SED TV. Developed jointly by Canon and Toshiba; SED stands for Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display. How it Works SED technology works much like a traditional CRT except instead of one large electron gun firing at all the screen phosphors that light up to create the image you see, SED has thousands of tiny electron guns known as "emitters" for each phosphor sub-pixel. Remember, a sub-pixel is just one of the three colors (red, green, blue) that make up a pixel. So it takes three emitters to create one pixel on the screen and over 6 million SED emitters to produce a true high definition (HDTV) image! It's sort of like an electron Gatling gun with a barrel for every target positioned at point-blank range. An army of electron guns, if you will. LCD is not as good picture wise, however if anything does ever happen, you can get them worked on unlike Plasma which is a disposable television. DLP TV's require you to change the bulbs ($300-$400) every 2-4 years. The SED is a bit of an unknown at this point as they are not out or at least not out to the majority to see what problems it may or may not have. I would stick to LCD for now and get one from a Best Buy or Circuit City where you can purchase the 4 year service plan for around $200.00. These technologies are so new and unproven, it is hard to say which is better. If you have lot's of money to throw away, then Plasma by all means is going to give you the best picture right now, but if you want something that God forbids, it breaks, I would stick to LCD. If something better comes out you can always use the LCD for a computer monitor if it has that type of connection. These TV's are like computers, the technology is faster than they can sell them, so whatever you buy will be worthless in a year anyway. Nothing like the good ole tube TV!! At least it is a proven technology. I would stick to brands like Samsung, Philips, or sharp for LCD. Be careful of these fly by night companies like Olivie or however it is spelled. I have a 37" LCD HDTV Philips with Ambilight. I thought the Ambilight was a dumb gimmick, but man it is pretty cool! I love it. HP and Dell make nice LCD's too. Sony is behind in the LCD race, but has some high end models that are really nice. HEY JUST ONE GUYS OPINION.
