I got a collection notice from a law firm for a loan that I defaulted on. If I don't pay, they will sue. I want to pay it off cuz I don't want to go to court, but I want to work with the original creditor. What do I do?

If it's gone to a lawyer or a collection agency, it's too late to work with the original creditor, in most cases.

Contact both parties, and send a copy of the same letter to each stating that you are going to honor your original agreement. Send the payment you owe to the original creditor, and a copy of the payment to the collector. Ask for a receipt from the creditor.
