  • The issue is less one of preparedness and more that of not potentially closing yourself off to new horizons, associations, what have you. I'm sure Wiccans, perhaps rightly so, see themselves as highly open minded, tolerant and understanding, but whether all Wiccan beliefs will agree with what your own heart and reason tells you years down the line, is another matter. Whether you like it or not, you might begin to agree with more tradionalist opinions, or you could move further toward pagan ideals, which are ancient, but less common in most societies than, say, those of conservative Christians. Simply put, can you truly know who you'll be even a few years down the line?
  • Yes. There are a lot of responsibilities and life experience knowledge required of a High Priestess. The 17 year old is just not going to have that or be ready for that. I know very few respectable Wiccans (not fluffies) who will undertake to train and initiate a 17 year old, let alone in the duties of a High Priestess. It is an age of uncertainty and experimentation, and should be. However, it can be frustrating to put so much into a person who probably won't stick with it.
  • Personally, I think all that High Priestess/High Priest shit is just someone's lack of popularity in High School. Covens have an hierarchy that is generally, at it's base principle, a venomous dripping of ego-inflated lies and the desire to use spirituality for self-gratification. Be careful with that.
  • I am wiccan, as well. I believe 17 is a fine age to be a high priestess, so long as you are dedicated and willing to do your job. Congratulations on being trained enough, though! =)
  • Yes. Similar to what AR said, being a High Priest/Priestess is more than just knowing how everything works and knowing what to do for the rituals/Esbats/Sabbats. It's about knowing the God and the Goddess through years of meditation, research, ritual/practice, and merely being in their presence. Keep in mind, though, that the question states "Do you believe 17 is too young..." not "Is 17 too young...". For all I know one of that age could turn out to be a great High Priest/Priestess. However, based on the question referring to "any" 17 year old, I still believe that it is too young overall.
