Is this a round-about way of offering Pascal's Wager to us atheists? Clearly the former is more desirable, but you wouldn't actually find out you were wrong, you'd be dead. Of course, this question doesn't take into account the facts that A) There is more than one religion in the world and therefore it's possible to believe but be wrong and B) God doesn't exist.

Obviously the first option is the one that I would prefer. Unfortunately, it is impossible for me to believe in God without lying to myself. However, I am content with this.
-
then comes the question of which god or gods, which religion that believes in God - or which gods to believe in....or no god but still religion - buddhism for example... it's not just christianity that believes in God you kno
-
I'd rather live my life according to what I think is right and reasonable, without regard to the consequences to me personally.
-
the most logical option is the first one. if you believe in god and he ends up to be not real, then nothing happens, if you dont believe in god and he turns out to be real then you go to hell.
-
Option number 1 =).
-
in the times before spoken language people lived life how they understood it to be lived (and probably more rightously than we could ever understand)- if they were unconcerned with the existance of God but lived in a manor congruient with what we have come to believe is Gods law ....Would you sir have me believe they would be denied the keys to the kingdom????
-
In the first option how will you find out it wasn't true when you are already dead?!
-
The first would less dissapointing; it's not like you're going to lie awake nights in your coffin thinking "What a waste." You wouldn't really notice, is what I'm saying. With the second, you'd suffer for your mistake for eternity. Not fun.
-
Yeah, Pascal's Wager, an old and tired argument. I'd rather live the only life I have to the fullest cause when die, it's the hole and the worms for all eternity
-
And what happens when it turns out that Allah is the one true God, and you've been pissing him off more and more each time you mentioned Jesus? Or Zeus? Or Mithras? Or the Flying Spaghetti Monster? This is just one of the reasons why your argument (a.k.a. "Pascal's Wager") fails from the outset...
-
Correct me if I'm wrong but if this is taken from the Bible, isn't it stating that there may or may not be a god? Personally I don't believe in god, death is death...end of story!
-
I'd rather live my life believeing there is something better after death, and then find out it wasn't true. Because since I'm dead, I won't "find" anything out. There is no heaven, no hell, no after life. Whereas if I live my whole life as if He didn't exist, and find out it's all true, then I'd be going to Hell, wouldn't I?
-
I would rather live my whole life believing in and following God. My God is a loving God who won't deny the good access to the kingdom. (Even if you mistakenly worshipped Zeus,Mithras,or the Flying Spaghetti Monster.) Now that Allah dude sounds scary to me. Don't believe in him and don't know anything about him except what I learned here today which was: "you've been pissing him off more and more each time you mentioned Jesus?" Doesn't sound like my type of guy. If my choice was to follow and believe in him or the Gum-Wrapper god, I'd choose the Gum-Wrapper god, at least he wouldn't get "pissed off" with me so easily. YIKES!
