Why is the expected child's gender an issue? Am I missing something?

Normally you only throw a shower for someone more than once. You don't throw a shower everytime they get pregnant. Since she had a shower 2 years ago when she was having 3 boys, she got all boy clothes and stuff. Now that she's having a girl, I wanted to throw a shower so she can get girl stuff :)

It used to be inappropriate to have more than one baby shower but it is common now. Most women have more than one baby shower for the same pregnancy! They may have one with their family, co-workers, and another with the significant other's family if they are not married. If you are concerned with how it will look have a "second baby shower" then you should consider throwing a "Sprinkle Baby Shower." A sprinkle Baby Shower is especially for moms who already have children and the guests are expected to simply "sprinkle" the mom with the items necessary to have another like pampers, wipes, socks, blankets, bottles, etc. http://www.inexpensivebabyshower.com

It is perfectly fine to throw a baby shower for a mother’s second or third baby, as long as the guest list is limited to relatives and close friends and/or guests who did not attend a shower for the first child. It is an especially nice event for the mother-to-be if several years have passed since the last baby was born, or if it is for a child of a different sex. This is your best friend? Do it, and celebrate together! She needs girls things.

I think it is perfectly fine and great that you want to throw her another shower. She received all boy stuff the first time. I can't imagine it's easy to just trot out and shop on her own with 3 toddlers in tow. :) Good for you! You're a good friend. Besides, people love to celebrate babies.
