The microwave oven. Seriously. We've become an instant-gratification society and that has shortened our attention spans as well as our tempers.

The world is getting smaller, yet we are distancing ourselves constantly. The univeral feeling of loneliness can cause aggression out of frustration.

I really think society needs to figure out a way that our children get better care. I do not stay home and I don't know any housewives, but in an ideal world, either mom would be at home, or society comes up with some new way that kids aren't left alone to become less than their best selves outside of parental eyes. Even though I lived in Chicago growing up, there were no kid killers back in the 60's and 70's. (Probably a few, not exactly zero.) But now it's a nationwide EPIDEMIC. Mothers were home back then. Daycare is not the same. The country needs to sit down and think about this seriously.

A general social alienation and trend toward isolation, demand for instant everything, shortened attention spans, separation from nature, media filling our heads with the idea that anger and violence are the most satisfying ways of resolving our problems, feelings of inadequacy and inferiority perpetuated by the world of advertising, the, "I'm a star!!! So, recognize biyatch!!" syndrome, lousy roll models and corrupt leaders creating an extreme type of cynicism that devalues and denigrates everything in the minds of the young, plus the 7 deadly sins.

Fear. The kind of fear broadcast by the media every day. Fear of murder, rape, theft, terrorism, WMDs, lightning, kidnapping and disease, to name a few. Unfortunately, the world is led by the kind of charismatic people that hit fear with head-on aggression and anger.

My observations are the following; I think a major contributor to this is the individualisation of people together with the removal of collective co-operation, both of which isolates people, making them feel disempowered, lonely, weak and vulnerable. Add to this the mass migration of millions of people from the developing world to the developed world and who then mostly avoid integration with indigenous peoples, the cultures and the laws. Both parents being forced to go out to work just to make end meet.

There are no outlets for physicall agression I also dont think it is incresing that much there is just more awarness and media coverage. It used to be "what happend in the home stayed in the home"
