  • I've heard that Alienware went to shit after Dell bought them. That's just what I've heard though. In fact, I've heard that Dell has kind of gone to shit as well. I bought something from a smaller company that builds custom machines. I use it for video editing and it works great. I've heard it's best to go with a company that has good support. I chose the company I did because of their support.
  • I would avoid Dell and Alienware both. (Though I didn't know that dell bought them.) Dells are harder to get parts for or to work on yourself. Alienware is a lot of money for a chrome alien head on the case. Their best rig they have is about $8K, if you buy all the same parts on newegg.com and assemble it yourself you can get it for about $2K. So my answer would be to get the parts and do it yourself, or give a geeky friend $50 to do it for you. You would save a lot of money this way. And I actually did shop for this myself. I'm not just saying probably. This rig has in the Terabytes of storage. fsb speed of 1333 - 1600mhz 2G ddr2 ram pc6400 quad core processor 2 gforce 8200 GT graphics cards in SLI 800 Watt power supply It won't have a fancy glow keyboard or anything, but it's a good machine.
