  • Get an infection from alcohol? Hmmmmm. If this is the case then hospitals around the world and down through the decades have made a seriously huge mistake since alcohol is one of the number one methods used to sterilize not only instruments, but also the doctors hand's and in older days more than modern times to sterilize the wound. If at all possible get a paper cut or some minor cut and pour your favorite alcohol on it. Don't be surprised if you swear like a sailor from the sting - because its going to stink like the devil. OR, for my amusement, go to the party and get a straight shot of vodka to start off, slug it all back in one mouthful, swish it around and (try to ) swallow it. Please have people with cameras - preferably a vid cam since I have no doubt that the range of facial expressions would be worth it. Trust me, one sip from your favorite alcoholic beverage with in a few days after having a metal object violently stabbed through your tongue will be a singular life time experience that you will never want to experience ever again.
  • You must avoid beer and wine. Something like vodka isn't going to cause an infection itself. BUT drinking alcohol will put a strain on your system, and dehydrate you. So you may end up with an extra swollen tongue the next day than if you'd abstained. Not to mention you'll talk more if you're drunk, and possibly do other things you shouldn't be doing with your tongue just yet, which can all make it more swollen and prolong healing. I did basically the same thing. I got my tongue pierced and drank whiskey that night, and woke up with a tongue the size of a dead cat. There were indentions all around it where it had pressed against my teeth all night, and it stayed very swollen for about 4 days.
