  • That was pretty damn funny and your superior should lighten up.
  • I don't think so, but there's always a Dudley Do-gooder who thinks that everyone should consider their watchfulness and willingness to report every little thing they see, a commendable asset to their community. Gotta watch out fer them shoes ya know. And it never fails that they have NO sense of humor whatsoever.
  • Absolutely not. You conveyed a very important point that people abuse the resources for help while being flippin' hilarious! It was probably deemed on the aggressive side, but hey, while someone is complaining about a shoe in the road - other people legitimately need help!!!! I say, kudos for speaking your mind. You may have gotten in trouble, but I bet the caller won't forget what you said :)
  • That citizen obviously wasn't a member of the "Crime Stompers"?Did you apologize and say that you put your foot in your mouth? It's too bad you got off on the wrong foot, but your boss should get the boot!
  • No, not right. People need to get a sense of humor.
  • No hey should have laughed and went about their business.
  • no way, maybe he wasnt hit with the happy stick
  • You should not have been reprimanded, but currently in the Pacific NW there is some odd stuff going on that people are getting worried about. Up in the north sound (the straights between Canada and the US) about 15 shoes with feet still in them have washed up on shores over about a 200 mile area. So you have to know your audience.
  • Hell no! Keep it up.
  • what the hell did the citizen want you to do, go get the shoe outta the road, did they think it was a crime? You were being humerous, and in a job like yours, you need a little humor!
  • I probably would have said 'well good for you , you are half way to a stomping good time!' Or maybe, 'Shoooe fly don't bother me".
  • WTF? I can't believe a civilian would take exception with that innocent statement. It sounds as though the culprit just needs to be in the position of making a complaint. No matter how lame the complaint was. And your supervisor could have just let it go. This is whats wrong with America.
  • No. That is very funny, and if I was that citizen, I would laugh hard. That citizen must have had too much time on his/her hands to concern him/herself with a shoe on the road! I am surprised you were reprimanded my friend. What you said could be real----did you hear in the news about those sneakers that have been showing up mysteriously on the shores of British Columbia? The sneakers still had severed feet in them! There is an ongoing investigation by the RCMP about this, as it has been happening for the past year----single sneakers with human feet still in them. So the person who reprimanded you should take your comment seriously, knowing that it is quite credible!
  • I think it's hilarious! Screw authority, they need to lighten up anyway!!!
  • *laughs* Someone takes things too seriously. No, it isn't right. :p
  • I think it's kind of funny... However, in your line of work you really have to be able to read a person whether over the phone or in person and some people just don't take light to any kind of situation where they feel they could be in danger... whether it's a shoe in the road or a gun to their head. People like to be taken seriously and the person probably didn't feel as though he was being taken so (which he in a way wasn't)
  • Seems pretty clear to me! It's not a problem unless there is a foot in it. I think it's funny. John Q. Public can be a little tough to deal with sometimes. It makes you wonder about what's happening to the gene pool. I recently got reprimanded for scaring Jane Citizen on an alarm call in a retirement home. Seems Jane's mother was a resident and she was there to visit. We cleared the building for reentry (because it was a faulty sensor) and I continued patrolling the hall with the thermal camera verifying no hot spots in the cieling. This lady had been harassing the other firefighters that she smelled gas. "There is no gas at this facility, so it was impossible" they all replied (and they were right) She called them all "liars" and she "knew she could smell a gas leak"... She ranted and rambled until she came to me and saw that I had the camera. She ear f#$ked me for 10 minutes, keeping me from doing my job properly. Finally she screamed at me, so I lied to her and pointed to some numbers on the screen of the camera and said that "it hasn't picked up any sign of gas" (Which it's not capable of, but she didn't know that). Long story short, she yelled at me that "That thing is WRONG!! and "I know what I smell!"... I got pissed, pulled out my cigarette lighter and said "this is the only other way I have to test" I lit the lighter and ran toward the kitchen. She hit the roof and started screaming. The scene commander snatched me up and raised my a$$ about 8 good inches and threatened to suspend me. Now, I realize that you didn't ask for that drawn out story, but sometimes you think that certain people just need to be shipped off to Montana (where the population is sparse) instead of getting in trouble for using a little humor in a tough job.
  • That's pretty dang funny and you sound like a quickie there buddy. Tell your boss you won't do it again. jeesh.
  • I read this question and laughed so hard I fell out of the chair. I can't believe you got in trouble for that. Damn, with your job..you would go crazy if you didn't say stuff like that every once in a while. If I had to put up with scum everyday I woudn't keep your job 1 month. Your boss needs a vacation
  • The citizen was right. The shoe was out there on purpose, ready to leap on a passing car and chew out the tires. It was conspiring to rob and murder civilians. Clearly it was your duty to arrest the shoe. You can't trust these damned shoes.
  • Oh, man. Too funny!
  • NO! Totally unfair
