I had a kid in my custody with no parents at one time. I signed to get him in and also to get him overseas. When he came back he got his GED and a college degree. I was about 32 and as proud as if I really were his real father.

Well the District Judge gave custody to County Welfare because he was a bad actor, not of age and a problem in school. He became a High School drop out and was in foster homes. I was the County Welfare Director and tagged with the responsibility.
He turned out all right!!
Had a couple of others too that kind of made me feel good when they made it.
These kind of things make social work worthwhile, it sure isn't the pay.
