Because we focus on the positive consequences (such as more money)
-
For the money.
-
working long hours doesnt have negative consequences. where did you get that idea. i worked ten hour shifts without a lunch even. i had no negativity.
-
For the money (the obvious one). Also, somebody has to do the job. Just think of those workers who deal with hospital wastes and septic tanks. Being exposed to dirty or toxic things could have lots of negative consequences, but again, somebody has to do the job.
-
I'm sure most people who do this do it for the money.
-
We believe and hope we can accomplish more with more time. Sometimes this is true - sometimes not. What do you consider long hours?
-
Because enough never seems to be enough. Most people always seem to want more. (money, that is)
-
To make money so we can live, because the economy is so awful.
-
Pay dem bills
-
because being poor has it's negative consequences too.

I believe working long hours when you have a family can have personal negative affects that aren't evident immediately. People do it because they need and want the money and to feel they are doing something important and productive. Some people believe that jobs that they hold/do is a big part of who they are. Some people actually work a lot to avoid facing personal issues at home and convince themselves that they work to have the things they "need".
-
sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I do it for several reasons. One, is lack of options. My job has 12 hour shifts, supposably 4 days on, 3 days of. But we are on call 24/7, and always have to work that first day off. Sometimes more, and if the next shift has call offs, we sometimes have to stay late to stay over 4 to 8 hours. Add that to an hour drive each week, I don't have time for anything. The other reason is I need the money. I am not really qualified to do much of anything else, and jobs are pretty hard to come by. Lastly, it is a job that has to be done. I am a corrections officer, and somebody has to be there to take care of and keep control of the inmates in our custody. If we don't work the hours and have the manpower to do our jobs, other people will suffer.

We loose our health to gain our wealth, then when we are we old all to often too many loose their wealth trying to regain their health.... take your time everyday to love, laugh and be present in your life.

My damn mortage.

Our bosses, landlords and bill collectors don't give a crap about us, or our health. It's a vicious and stupid cycle. I mean we wear ourselves out for our entire lives dealing with stress and ruining our physical health, in order to have just enough money for when we get old and senile to pay for people to clean us up when we shit ourselves. Ugh. But then, if nobody worked and did just what they wanted, would it be any better? Couldn't say but yeah, need to stay warm in the Winter.
