Help answer this question below.
Suicidal people are unstable and that is exactly what military units do not need. The bonds between soldiers is forged on the understanding that they will keep each other alive. If someone has the death wish, they cannot be counted on to look out for you since they cannot be counted on to keep themselves alive.
Also, the chance for innocent casulaties goes up with the addition of a suicidal person in your unit. What if they decide to hug a grenade, sit on a claymore, or try something stupid with a vehicle? You are seldom alone with lethal items in the military.
The high ranking officers want you to kill other people, not yourself.
Anyone with a death wish is an extreme danger to others.
Because the military is looking for people who would give their lives for their country, not for people looking to throw them away.
Let's face it, some people are not in what we would call a normal frame of mind. To actually join a militia or crusade, knowing that you are going overseas to kill another humanbeing is not considered civilized behavior, war does not reflect or benefit man in anyway, it only benefits the coffers of the bankers that finance it.
A soldier needs to want to live in order to be efficient, instead of hopelessly running into gunfire...it's also extremely dangerous for the other soldiers.
