The news media, the education system, and, of course, Hollywood and television. It appears that they wish to drive a wedge between Southern Blacks and Whites. False propaganda is produced and promoted by the movie and television industry, example, Roots and North and south, these are make-believe, fiction. It make Blacks hate Whites, especially Southern Whites. Fortunately, most people have not been deceived by such hate-mongering tactics,in a recent Louis Harris poll which shows that 92% of the Southern people, of all races, are not offended by the Confederate battle flag, and that 68% of Blacks nationwide are not offended. Unfortunately, a few too many have believed the lies about our Confederate battle flag, which has resulted in unjustified and horrible intolerance, bigotry, hatred, violence, and even murder.

The Confederate flag is a thing of the past. The south had lost the Civil war over 100 years ago.It is time to put the flag away in the basement for it has no meaning in modern day society.I think it is funny to see it on semi trucks on the highway, and wonder what the drivers are thinking.

It is not racist, though many blacks don't know that or refuse to believe it is not racist. The confederate flag generally means general angst against the end result of the civil war, for while we may have lost, our indignant morale is not.

I have not ever witnessed a black person flying a flag with a neon green kangaroo sailing in an artichoke sailboat on a potato salad pond. Am I to conclude that such a flag would also be racist. If you are trying to figure out whether or not the flag is racist (which a flag, being and inatimate object, could not be) you should try a different premise.

To be completely honest, as a "Yankee" I shudder when I see a Confederate Flag. I perceive the person that flys it be stuck in the past, and see that our country is still divided - South V.S North. I do not think that they are Racist.

Are you kidding?

The Confederates SUPPORTED slavery. Black people DID NOT!

Because the confederate flag has different meanings for white and black people. Too many southern whites, it's just part of the history of the south and showing your pride in where you came from. For many blacks from the south, it's a bit more painful. Ancestors and family members have been killed under that flag (as well as been slaves and delt with racisim with that flag being thrown in their face). Blacks, in general, have a different feel about the flag than other southern Whites (who dont have aproblem with the flag). And I might as well throw in this in there, if southern Whites fought for their "southern rightds" (and one of them being to keep slaves) why would a southern black rep the flag that many southern whites carried with pride when protecting "class" rights? To me it'd make no sense. I dont feel like the flag is racist, but if someone found it racist I could see why...it's got too much of a history for one group and not quite enough for the other. As for other blacks, I dont know. I only know form personal exprience and family/friends that dont enjoy seeeing the flag. Most of my friends understand why someone would carry it around (their proud of the south) but see it as a waste of space, time, and stupid (the south lost).

The Confederate flag was a battle flag and did not represent any state in the south but represented the Confederate army. The south went to war for states rights and being taxed without representation...NOT SLAVERY. The North went to war with the south because the southern states wanted to secede from the Union for the said above.

the Confederate States fought the Civil War for States Rights, under the Stars and Bars (the Confederate Flag), slavery was one issue that caused the war (but not the only). The northern states (United States) used good marketing to convince the common person that war was only about slavery, and when the war was over, the winner gets to write history, so they made themselves look better by highlighting the slavery issue. and to this day, most people think the war was only about slavery. The flag didn't become a symbol of slavery until the KKK started using it to show their pride in their history. and even though the flag isn't racisist, it is perceived to be so, and too often, perception becomes reality. a couple of things to think about. In the Confederate States of America, slavery was leagle for 4 years; in the United States of America it was for about 50 years. Abraham Lincoln, at the Geteyburg Address, freed all SOUTHERN slaves, but not the ones that were still in bondage in the northern states. In fact, his wife was a slave owner. When Texas fought its war for independence with Mexico, the ONLY issue at hand was slavery. The Mexican government welcome white settlers, and did just about anything to make them happy. But due to their strong Cathlic beliefs, Mexico was strongly opposed to slavery, but the white settlers in Texas wanted slaves. so the war was fought. Remembe the Alamo? So in fact, the Texas State Flag is more racist than the Confederate Flag. Slavery was, and in some places still is, a horrible instituition. it has torn apart families, friends, and neighbors. and due to people being hung up on symbols, it is still causing problems. stop the hate. nobody can insult you unless you let them. if you see a flag, assume it is some good old boy who is proud of his history, until he shows you that he is a raceist. if you are one of those good old boys, don't wave the flag in others faces, they might not understand.
