Well of course they only do that if it's a GOOD love song, or they're feeling particularly sappy. :) But the basic tools of romantic music are always the same: the longing for the wholeness and joy of being connected to another person, the tragic pain of separation and isolation, losing and finding love, finding and losing love... like a timeless sea of feelings common to all humans through all history -- craving and clinging and suffering and rejoicing. "Goodbye" is one of the hammers that rings that bell, if it's placed just so in the right place.

Art. Music. Poetry. What's the point? Is it just for the artist, the musician, or the poet to express himself? Surely, there must be *something* that transcends absorbing the information as a fleetingly sensory experience. It's not just a picture or words on a page. When the senses are stimulated, a whole interaction with the work happens. There is a transformation that occurs during which we no longer passively engage in any artistic media. Instead, certain sentiments resonate in who we are, where we have been, and what we feel. We utilize various creative outlets because this gives us an opportunity to connect not only with each other but to the very core of our own hearts.
