  • You can but shouldn't want to... Acoustic guitars have what is called "high action." on purpose to cultivate and develope fingering strength, speed agility and continuity of your chording and fretting. it is the same reason Liberace used to wear all those gaudy heavy rings... His teacher used to make him wear weights on his fingers so that he could learn to play faster and smoother. Nothing better for a learner than high action, scales and syncopation! but if you must? Buy a new, deeper cut, bridge.
  • That's the reason I mostly play my Stratocaster, even the action on my high dollar Rainsong acoustic is way too high and stiff for my playing style. Still, you can have the bridge lowered (literally sanded down to size) or replaced with a lower set bridge. A good guitar technician can get your action as close to the sweet spot as you need, maybe for 50 bucks or less.
  • Check for neck bow. You may need to adjust the truss rod to correct it. Also, and be very careful with this, you may want to sand down the underside of the bridge saddle a little bit, but that would require some work on the guitar. There are some great articles at Stewart Macdonald.
