Been there, got that T-shirt. Not as "moving" as I had expected. It was a long time ago. Just another big rambling house that used to be owned by a very rich guy but is now just a monument.
It's not one of my top things in the world to see. I loved Elvis, but not enough to make me want to see Graceland, unless I was in the neighbourhood for something else...now the Motown Studios...that's another thing altogether.
been there several times with different people who wanted to go, when they came to visit me.
Yes, I would like to someday.
Ya. Where is it?
been there done that
I'M FROM "GREENLAND"!
I visited in 1988...
Only if to piss on it! Elvis was one of the most over-rated ripoff artists in the history of music. he stole every song he preformed from poor black musicians who couldn't get a fair contract or radio air time becouse of the color of their skin. the mere mention of the name Elvis makes me physically ill!
The only thing that makes him a "king" is that he died while sitting on "the throne".
No, never been on my list of places to see..:)
Have been there and took the tour through, he was a very casual person from the decor and size of the home, to me at least.
I used to live a couple of blocks away from Graceland.
Huge throngs of ppl would come on his b'day at the anniv. of his death holding vigils. I think thats silly, frankly.
Oh, I would love to see it someday. I still remember the day he died. Everyone was soooo sad!! My mother and a sister both had tickets to the concert he was to play in Portland. My sister's mother-in-law actually met the man at his first concert here in Maine. She said she was a chambermaid at the hotel he was staying at. She was carrying a basket of fruit to a room on the floor he was on and an apple dropped off and rolled across the floor. He picked it up, wiped it off on his shirt and thanked her for it.
oh yes - it would be great - even better if we could pay to have a look inside!
Been there...done that
Yes. But, only for historic value. I am not an elvis fan.
No. Went past that city on the way to Nashville. Didn't see the need to even stop. Just another empty house. Buffalo Bill Cody's ranch (house) is the same.
yes i would love too.:)
Was Elvis Presley a homosexual? Explain.

That's funny. I wasn't expecting to be moved at all, and yet I was. I guess thinking of him as that 19 year old kid and what his life came down to in the end, seeing him buried there next to his mother, all of his costumes, awards and other memorabilia, Lisa Marie's swing set in the backyard, the video tour being narrated by Priscilla and Lisa Marie- I just found it all quite touching and bittersweet to see how the system can chew someone up and spit them out.

Well, he helped the "system" along a lot, gtravels. He was not the best manager of his own life. I really admired Elvis's talents. I truly did. I think he had a very sad life, though, all things considered.

19 year old kid from Mississippi- how could he have possibly been prepared for what was to come? And the people around him did him no favors. Guess some things never change!
by gtravels loves her life penguin on August 23rd, 2008
True. But, he did not stay nineteen. He did become a man and was a man with some ideals and values. He lost it somewhere. Nobody really knows when or where. It was a personal thing. He had many true friends who tried to help but were at a loss as to how.

I just picture his background pitted against the incredible fame and fortune thrown at him and could see how he wouldn't have much of a chance, brought down by the very system that built him up. I can't imagine the strength it would take to maintain some semblance of normalcy in the face of all that. Reminds me a lot of the young stars of today.
by gtravels loves her life penguin on August 23rd, 2008
Yeah,...and Elvis did remain very much a "country boy". I am sure he battled with his fame and celebrity a lot..all his life.

hey Tom, when did you make maestro??? did i miss it?
by Mentalmum is back on August 23rd, 2008
Everybody missed it except BigDaddy, but he had to crash. I knew you would "wise up" to it eventually. I almost missed it myself. I wasn't really watching. I just got a lot of positives all of a sudden...and...there I was! Ha!
