In Germany I used to order "cola-weisen," which is a hefewesien (beer) with a splash (a little more than a shot) of cola. Are there any good beer-mixes with American beers?

Ginger ale or ginger beer makes a good mixer with a pale ale or a lager. Also, you can find some terrific beer cocktail recipes on www.herestobeer.com

I had a British friend that used to mix Sprite with Budweiser for a shandy. Generally, the lighter the beer, the better to mix with. You could try a whole host of fruit juices (I bet that lime or lemon-ade would be great in a US pilsner-style beer). Sodas or other flavored drinks could all work depending on your taste. If you were in Germany you probably saw alot of different weisen mixes. I know I hear about a new one everytime I talk to someone who has traveled extensively there. Use that as a guide, since US beers owe a great deal to German heritage (Czech heritage too). You might, if you are adventurous, even try a dash or two of hot sauce in your beer.
