Yes, When I waitressed I ran alot for many hours up and down stairs. It is painful. Ice the area, rest, get proper shoes some shoe that really supports your feet. It takes a while to feel better but you have to rest more and help it heal. Check out a natural ani-inflammitory from health food store.

omg i hate shin splints. i run cross country n i had them sooooo bad i cudnt even walk. HEEL WALKS HELP. ALSO, i dont kno wat these r called, but point ur heel down n point ur toes up n down. rest, massage the area, ice, also spray cold water on it during a shower helps a lot. Theres also some stuff on utube u cud watch. i had them so bad but i basically stopped running as hard but still ran n they eventually got better. idk...orthodics help too. HEEL WALKS.

I've had really good luck with those Walk Fit insoles they sell on infomercials. They are the only As Seen On TV thing I've ever seen that actually works as promised. I used to have shin splints all the time. I bought a pair last winter and haven't had shin splints since.

First and foremost, get some rest. At the same time, use icepack on the shin. I would evaluate the running shoes you're wearing since that is most likely the cause of it. I used to have shin splits and it was caused by a bad running shoe (New Balance) and after switching to Asics, it cured the problem.
