  • You are right in one regard - the rules should be the same for the men and women in your office. A skort (yes, there is such a thing) is a pair of shorts with a piece of fabric over the front to make the garment appear like a skirt from the front view. But at heart, it is still a pair of shorts - especially from the back. Take this up with HR and I bet they will be on your side. Shorts are shorts, even if they have a piece of fabric in front.
  • Skorts actually are an acceptable word, though it isn't in the dictionary. If you go to any big mall, a fashion place, you know, that sells clothes, and you ask for skorts, they'll know just what you mean.
  • haha. You are more than welcome to wear a skort if you want :) Actually, I think this is one of the few give backs. While you are wearing slacks and loafers, we females are putting on our panty hose and high heels. I think skort is a minor compromise :-P
  • You didnt look very hard, its in every dictionary. Main Entry: skort Listen to the pronunciation of skort Pronunciation: ˈskȯrt Function: noun Etymology: blend of 1skirt and shorts Date: 1951 : a pair of shorts made to resemble a skirt (as with an overlapping front panel)
  • Shorts that look like a skirt are actually called Culottes. Skort is a made up word to take the place of correct terminology it is found in dictionaries.
  • New words appear regularly. Get over it. Call 'em whatever you want but you're wrong.
  • I've heard of skorts - not in the dictionary but a form of clothing. They look like a pair of shorts from the back, but from the front they look like a skirt. They were quite popular in the 80s or 90s (i can't remember - the years fly by so quickly i can remember as though it was yesterday!!!).
  • if you lose i think you should have to wear skorts to work for a whole year...lol
  • There is such a word and I remember wearing them in the 1960s.
  • sorry to tell you but there is such a word as a skort its a skirt/shorts.:)
