Yes, it says he is a good sensei because he's teaching you some valuable lessons like "nothing in life is free" and how to solve a problem on your own without his help.
-
Not from my end. Sh!t happens sometimes, and you cannot depend on your sensei being there to "hold your hand" (so to speak). Maybe he is giving you some tough love.
-
Personally, I think it is your responsibility. Though, I am sure he can provide things for you to use, I am also sure he would like to see you take care of this problem, swiftly, like ninja! Best of luck, I hope it works out for you!
-
hes a good sensei, is it his problem your stuff got stolen? nope!!!
-
I don't think it says anything bad about him. I mean yeah, it sucks, but meh, what are you gonna do?
-
That may depend on many things, like if the instructor has very high profits and there is a pile of equipment sitting unused in a corner, or if the instructor is struggling to avoid bankruptcy and has no spare equipment to offer ... in either event, you should have had full insurance for your vehicle that included theft of vehicle and up to a certain value of its contents as well. As a martial arts instructor since 1977, I would do what ever I could to help ... organize car pool to get you to & from classes, temporarily lend equipment, or sell a new set on credit and wait patiently for payment, but I would not give free stuff, and my opinion is that it does not say anything bad if your instructor thinks likewise.

Does not say anything bad about him at all. It would be rather costly for him to give equiptment to students lost theirs or just could not afford them in the first place. If you had insurance file a claim and have the things replaced :)
-
he is not your mother, he is your teacher
-
I imagine the guy is trying to run a business. If he was to help you out, it would set a precedent for all the other students if and when something happens to their stuff. He isn`t going to make any money this way. I was in the army and the motto was, "One man, one kit." Everyone was responsible for their own stuff, and lending and borrowing was severely frowned upon. If you lost something, you did without. Everyone was responsible for themselves and nothing or nobody else.
-
No he is not a bad sensei for not giving you equipment he has worked hard to pay for. Your loss is not his responsibility. It is yours and that is why it is recommended to obtain insurance on all items of value.
-
the reason iw as asking was not only did we become friends over the 1-2 years he's known me but he's also been known to give me equipment for free whether i needed them or not...even when i didn't ask for any so i was curious is all
-
He probably figures you are insured and your insurance company will give you money, some of which can be used for new equipment. Did you buy the equipment orginally? Has he given free equipment to others in your situation. How costly is this equipment? Normally it doesn't seem normal to me to have an establishment provide anything that you may have had stolen..they could go out of business very fast if they did that. :)

Must always practice peace in one self. When we see men of contrary charactor, we must turn inwards and examine ones self.
