I take it meaning that without a women you have no worries, in return no cry? That's just what I always heard.

I have been told that it is the latter, he's telling his woman not to cry. Personally, I like to think of it as saying that it's inevitable that women will make you cry, kind of like "Mo' Money, Mo' Problems". No woman equals no crying. I suppose that's kind of bitter, but I don't actually feel that way in real life, for the record.

For years I thought this song was haling the joys of being a bachelor. You got no woman, you go no problem. It was not until after a few years ago, when I was grieving over the death of a loved one when I heard this song...and it's meaning became crystal clear. I had never listened to the lyrics, only the chorus. It is about "friends we've lost along the way." He is telling his friend, No, Woman! Don't cry!"
