Boating operation requirements vary from state to state. The U.S. Coast Guard does not provide any requirements. Contact your local Coast Guard or police station they can tell you what the law is in your area. Some states require a boating safety course before you can operate any boat which has over a certain horse power. Even if this isn’t required I would suggest taking one. The local police or coast guard station should be able to tell you where these courses are offered.
