My Grandma has lived in Ft. Myers for 25 years and I went to school in Tampa. What it is like really depends on where you are. There are great places, bad places, poor places, rich places, fun exciting cities, backwoods boring towns, areas where only old folks live and young centers of growth, awesome beaches and some that aren't so awesome...get the picture? I really liked Tampa. Modern metropolitan city with everything you could ask for as well as very low incidence of hurricanes. Naples is also really nice, but it's expensive and the crowd is more retirement. I really am not a big fan of Ft. Myers. It is heavily tourist driven and therefore you are slammed during the summer and deserted during the winter. Also, the majority of the residents there are service personnel of one sort or another. I don't have a lot of experience north of Tampa. Hope this helps ~_~

I would highly recommend Naples, Southern West Coast of Florida. Absolutley beautiful, only an hour drive to Miami, but the summers are very humid. That is the only downside I can think of. Of course there are hurricanes, but the person I know who has lived there over 35 years has not had to deal with them too much. The only one that caused slight damage was Hurricane Andrew, so not so bad only one affecting them in 35 years. Good luck if you are planning on moving there.

i have relatives living around Naples and it's really beautiful out there. I would like there to be some restrictions to construction though as it's getting a little too urbanized and summers are extremely warm, humid and stormy. I'd like to live there from Novenber to April.

I used to live in Naples and that place is not for the young! There are a couple of high end trendy bars on 5th Ave and the beaches are nice. The water clarity isn't all that great unless you really go off shore. Then there is Hurricane season/ EL Nino/ Red Tide! I miss home! I used to go to Ft. Myers to party (I was younger when I lived there).
