Big red flags for bipolar are a rollercoaster of emotions as well as manic behavior. If you feel she has been misdiagnosed the best suggestion I could give you is to encourage her to see another doctor for a second opinion.

There is (or use to be) bipolar, and un-polar, the un-polar is bipolar, but there's more depression than there are highs, so just, because she's depressed, does not mean she's not bipolar.

Yes I d feel she has been mis-diagnosed..and the problem is she has two sisters also with depression who told the doctor they think she must hae bipolar..so the dr went ahead and increased her meds to that criteria, so the ine drug became three heavy narcotics 7 no one even blinked an eye??? She is a very meek person & feels that they must be right..But I have looked up these drugs & they are fightening..Ive personally not seen any bi polar symptons & wondered if its due to the meds, do meds control ALL these systoms I read about 100%, cause if they do then its the drugs helping, but if they dont, then there must be something wrong. Ive also read up alot on the disease & have never seen any of the symptoms..she also said she told the Dr that only once in ten years had she ever even resembeled a manic episode..and to me what she described was normal...I think we all can these moments. I think its so hard to admit she may not have this problem, as it has been a crutch for a few excuss in her past & worked so niccely she kept the title. ie- not working etc.. I hope she gets a second opinion, but even after discussing with my naturpath Dr , she told me not many Drs (even Natuuropaths) want to even try to manage a bipolar person as the meds can make them very unstable once removed....but what if there is no bi polar?? Once diagnnosd..how do you know if THEY were wrong??

If the meds are helping her, then it is very likely that she is Bipolar. It is much more likely that her sisters were misdiagnosed or simply only have depression. To be diagnosed as Bipolar Type I, which includes the mania that you are talking about, you only have to have ONE episode in your lifetime. There are different types or levels of Bipolar, too. Talk to your friend, read about Bipolar online, don't just look at the meds. It is common to need a med cocktail to control the symptoms!! Taking an antidepressant alone for Bipolar will often kick the hypomania and/or mania into gear. http://ezinearticles.com/?Bipolar-Disorder-101--What-You-Absolutely-Need-to-Know&id=44806 http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/HCL-32.htm
