Butterflies' antennae almost always have "knobs" on the ends while moths' antennae do not. Moths' antennae often resemble feathers.

Butterflies are *usually* active in the day while moths are *usually* active at night.

While resting, a butterfly *usually* holds its wings upright and together while moths *usually* rest with their wings open horizontally.

During the pupa stage of metamorphasis, a butterfly forms a hanging chrysalis while a moth generally forms a non-hanging chrysalis inside a silk cocoon.

Moths' bodies tend to be more hairy than butterflies'.

Moths do not usually possess a usable proboscis, which is a straw-like feeding structure.

Moths have little hooks/bristles which connect the hind wing to the fore wing.
