  • Not sure how long it has been. My daughters called me a Noob (short for newbie and in reference to someone inexperienced in the web)about 5 to 8 years ago. It might take another few years before it gets replaced with something else.
  • I've already seen it somewhat replaced. I rarely see "noob" but now see "nub" or "nub" inconjuction with other nouns, such as nubsauce or nubcake.
  • I don't know how long the term has been around, but my guess is... it will last FOREVER. or somewhere around that time :-P. There is no shortage of people who like to point fingers and make fun of others on the internet, and the word "noob" is the perfect word to do just that. The sad thing is, someone could be called a noob, by a noob.
  • you have starcraft to thank for that one. Pretty much every internet "leet" term comes from Doom/Quake, or Starcraft/Diablo. Over time they seeped out into the mainstream. My favorite is that "pwn" was originally a term used to make fun of people trying to use leet-speak and typo'ng. Now its become exactly what it was intended to insult.
