  • Relax, confidence comes with experience!
  • Schools are a good option. In the school where I work, the P/T's are self-employed. They bill the school district at $55.00 per hour and they set their own hours.
  • if you can pronounce your own name in english, you'll get 9 job offers out of your first 10 interviews!! visit the library and sign out a couple of books on interviewing techniques. always, remember, an interview is a two way street. you've gotta ask smart questions. do your research on each organization. ask questions and make statements that show your intended boss that you are the answer to his/her problems. if you've gotta give a job talk (as in academia) then, i'd make it something you're really familiar with (usually dissertation), find out if your audience will include undergraduates, graduates, medical faculty, etc. and make sure that you provide a couple of sentences in which you apply the results to several significant groups in your audience. remember that you've spent probably the better part of two years on minute details whereas your audience is looking at you, how you handle interruptions, distractions, smiling, friendliness, touching on each critical aspect. good luck!!!
  • First of all CONGRATS!! That is a great accomplishment! You are about to enter a great field of work helping many individuals work through the pain of torn this and thats, or amazing surgerys replacing whatever. My advice to you, not knowing what your likes are, is to find a well established group to work with. That way you have great on the job training which will only further your expertise. When it comes to being the new kid on the block, listen to the other "older" therapists around you. Some of the new ones comming out think they know all the new techniques that are better than the ones being used. So be careful not to step on toes. Be professional (i'm sure you will be), and treat everyone as if they are your Mom, Dad, bro, sis, or best friend, and you will have a great experience. When it comes to your interviews, be confident, but not arrogant. Good luck!
