Why are there so many people trying to convince others to believe (or not) in god (e.g. 6 reasons god definitely does/doesnt exist)? surely you believe what you believe, not what someone else believes?

one day maybe common sense will prevail and people will accept that there is no god, until then religions will fight to have more members to prove which one has the biggest dick

Because, according to most christian beliefs, "you don't go to heaven unless you're a good christian an in order to be one, you must be a better evangalist." So that means that they have to prove to people that they are wrong and the christians are right.

Other people believe what they believe. I believe in nothing - there are things I know, things I will one day know, and things I may never know. A system such as this is much more practical than any which is based on blind faith.

I can't say for sure. Everybody has their own personal reasons for what they believe. Up-bringing, personal experiences, indoctrination... It's hard to say why someone believes something but I do know this. Somewhere out there there is a "True Believer" that is traning to kill you. He is traning with a minimum of food and water under very difficult conditions. The only thing clean on him is his weapon and he MADE his web gear. He doesn't worry about what work-out program to use, his ruck sack weighs what it weighs. He doesn't worry about how far to run, he runs until the enemy stops chasing him. He knows he either wins or he dies. He doesn't go home at 5P.M., he is home. All he knows is "The Cause". More people have fought and died because of their religious beliefs than were killed in WW1, WW2, The Korean War, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan COMBINED! the longest and costliest wars in the history of man have been waged over religion. A man will fight and die over his beliefs before he will fight over food for his own survival.

I think that the people that are trying to convince others one way or another are either very unsure themselves and looking for someone to agree with them, or they are severly brainwashed and will never accept other views.

do you really think getting rid of religion would get rid of wars, wasting their lives and losing their minds? at the moment, there are wars over who owns oil, people wasting there lives because of drugs, and going crazy because of relationships gone bad. don't go pinning everything bad on religion just because you don't believe in it.

one shouldn't believe what one wants to believe, one should believe what makes sense. That's why some people use logic to convince others. Maybe they get annoyed when they see statistics like '60% of Americans don't believe in Evolution'.
