  • Most of the big cellphone providers have wireless broadband. I think Verizon offers a plan for $50 a month. It is at least faster than dial-up...but I am only speaking hear-say as I have never tried it.
  • yes there is, but personally I'd go with getting a package deal. You know, SatelliteCable, Phone, and Internet. Usually if you add them up, it's a lot cheaper then having two separate services. Even after those low rates expire. That's my 2 cents.
  • Cable companies will generally allow you to buy JUST Internet service, if you're concerned about not wanting to pay for unused TV or phone services. Of course, that doesn't help if you can't run the cable to the house for some reason. But cable Internet with a local wireless router is likely to be faster, cheaper, and more reliable than getting the cell phone company's internet service.
  • Sounds like you want Fixed Band Broadband or as another alternative - the new WiMax. I can't speak for what is available in your area. In Canada, FBB is only available in certain rural areas and parts of the downtown cores of some cities. WiMax has much wider coverage - if you have GSM cell service, you probably have WiMax service. WiMax is getting around half the speed of a normal high speed internet service for around $40/month in Canada. That's because they're capping our speeds at the moment. But the modem you get will work anywhere that service is offered (across the city or across the country).
