It's that the people who attend such meetings are part of the tiny 'superclass' that wield ridiculously disproportionate power (political or economic) . http://www.amazon.com/Superclass-Global-Power-Elite-Making/dp/0374272107/ . Furthermore, these people tend to have common backgrounds and common interests, so such quaint concepts as "democracy" and "justice" get squashed when members of the superclass all want their 'piece of the action'.
