  • I had constant ear infections from birth. In the end it was decided to remove my adenoids which are located towares the back of the nasal passages and are composed of lymphoid tissue which is part of the immune system. WHen there is an infection the tissue swells up as inflammatory responses occur, and chronic infection can keep them enlarged for very long times. Because the ears are joined to the nasal passages by a left and right Eustachian canal, bacteria that remain lodged in the adenoids can spread and cause repeated infections in nearby tissues. And get what is near the adenoids- yes the Eustachian canals. So in the end because I kept having these infections, my adenoids were removed when I was very young (they are not essential) and hey presto, no more ear infections. And I have never had any hearing problems. Obviously my case could be totally different to yours and having an adenoidectomy could be more detrimental to your health than beneficial, so don't assume that if you had this everything would be OK. Ask your local doctor about it and about your condition and see what he says.
  • Ear infections can damage a child's hearing. If you can I would take him to an ear nose and throat specialist. They may be able to put tubes in his ears to help.
