NO! Whatever the reason the administration is using as criteria to restrict the students from wearing them should apply equally to the staff as well.

Students and teachers are not equals and do not have the same requirements placed on them. For example, in many schools male teachers must wear a necktie yet male students might not have to. Teachers do many things that students are not allowed to do -- wearing open toed shoes might be one of them. Stop whinging and get back to studying. School is not the appropriate place to get worked up about such things -- school is the place to concentrate on learning.

no they shouldn't. its gets the students even more irrtated by the rules. trust me.

Yes, teachers are not students. They have already been there. If they took that away you might as well take away eating, drinking, and taking phone calls during class. As well as leaving campus for lunch.

If students are told not to wear open toed shoes because it doesn't fit with the uniform criteria then no teachers should not have to follwo the same rules. However, if the students are told that it is for safety reasons the teachers should also have to comply.

Well, first of all, I think it's a bit over-the-top to restrict open-toed shoes in schools. But for the sake of answering the question, I will entertain the thought. LOL I agree with Piggles. If the shoe restriction is because of uniforms, then it shouldn't matter. If it is part of the dress code, then the teachers should follow the same dress code as the students. Otherwise, it seems like "Do as I say, not as I do."

At the high school I attended students were told we couldn't wear open-toed shoes due to the difference in activities between students and teachers. There was a huge controversy one year and students started rebelling and wearing flip-flops...sure enough, a girl was running and tripped on the flagstone, ripping a toenail off. Maybe the requirement of closed-toed shoes should be dependent on the amount of activity both students and teachers are going to be doing :)
