The ChiComs used dye on the grass in Peking in advance of the Olympics. They sent men with spray cans around and inside the cans they had green dye. They then sprayed all the brown, dead grass with dye to make it look green and healthy.

I have a vague suspicion it may be that they have wandered off the subject - as in "I DIGRESS"?

To dye is to add color, to stain. I have never heard of dying grass, but I imagine people do it so it looks green and healthy when it isnt.
