  • Yes I do know someone with an autistic child. Her father was 32 when his daughter was born. I do not teach or work with autistic children.
  • Yes I have worked with autistic children and their is not correlation between the father's age and a child's likelihood to be autistic. Nobody knows for sure all of the things that can lead to autism but it happens to parents of all ages, economic backgrounds, and cultures. Some believe that autism can be caused by the baby not getting enough oxygen at birth. Others think severe allergies to ingredients in vaccinations can cause it. There seems to be a gentic link as well. I have even heard of one case where the mother said a brain allergy to milk caused her son's autism. Interestingly enough many parents of autistic children find an improvement when they remove wheat and dairy from their child's diet.
  • I was born with autism. But it dwindled to Asperger's Syndrome. My father was nearly 20 at the time (he was 19, but his birthday would come 10 days after mine).
  • My cousin is autistic. They don't know his Dad. His parents adopted him before they knew he was autistic, but when they found out, it made no difference to their love. They adore that kid. He's a big favourite with all of us cousins and all the kids at school! He's dead gorgeous!
  • A rather good friend of mine was autistic. He taught me how to calculate things in my head.
