So. Freakin. Emo. "I'm Not Okay(I Promise)" is about suicide. That always qualifies u as emo. Now don't get me wrong, I love MCR and I have Three Cheers, but they r definitely an emo band.

Screw you all! The question as to rather My Chemical Romance is very typical. The truth is thier lyrics are very emotional and tend to be angsty. The actual music (or anthem) is really just rock (of course there are some sub genre mixtures) and the actual band members may or may not consider themselves emo (though they are very emotional about the band and the many fans *me*). My Chemical Romance is a very popular band and of course rumors fly but none need to really be incouraged. Come on it's a great band can't we just leave it at that?

Contrary to what some may think, I belive that MCR can be considered emo or punk, or even punk emo. I don't think splitting hairs on this subject is that productive though.

MCR is actually not really emo, even though I tell my sister it is so that I can make fun of her. They definitely have an emo or goth image, but the music itself sounds more like alternative punk to me. But I think you could make an argument for either side.

MCR Consider Themselves As A Punk Rock Band So That's What We Should Consider Them. There First Album Was Very Rock But Also Had That Fast Agressiveness To It As Most Punk Music Does. I Think Today They Are Too Hard To Label With A Catergorey. As Many Of You Like To Think EMO Is A Genre Of Music, Well It's Not It's A Trend, An Image. So Stop Labelling Music Emo.

MCR punk?????? How can anyone even think that? There is nothing punk about them at all. Punks are known for glittering makeup, wild colored hair, a cloths in colors such as pink and purple plaid sequin. (Think David Bowie, Billy Idol, or Poison when you think punk.) MCR wear Goth make-up, Death-Goth cloths, have EMO hair cuts, and sing sad depressing EMO songs. They are EMO-Goth.

"emo" is a pile of bullshit. Personally, I don't think mcr fits the puck scene though, maybe their early stuff, but as the band developed more, I think it's more difficult to try and peg them to a specific genre. Their a bit too complicated and unique.

they aren't emo, even see an interview with gerard on youtube. they say they aren't, and they don't go hurting themselves. the modern emo style, maybe, but thats all. they are rock i suppose.

It doesn't really matter whether my chemical romance are emo or punk, they make really good music. People may disagree with me but then again these are the opinions of stubborn people who have nothing better to do than express their insignificant opinions on brainless blog sites and complain about how bad bands are when they have no idea about the band as these people are so narrow-minded. I do realise I am contradicting myself
