You're reading I have been diagnosed as Bi-Polar about 4 years ago. I have been on psychiatric drugs for years that have not worked. I am now stable. Years ago I had several shoplifting convictions. Now I am wanting to go to school Is this going to come back to haunt me

My problem is that on the school admissions paper work they ask these questions. I am already getting help from the disability office and was told to do this paper work on-line and I just did not expect this type of question. I'm going to wait until Monday until I can speak to some one at Vocational Rehab to see what to do, I have waited so long for this and now I feel like my past will stop me from becoming a productive citizen.

WOW How is it worded, does it ask if you were convicted of a crime or does it ask "felony"??

It is listed under "Disciplinary History" One part is about any misconduct at a school, and the 2nd part ask: Have you ever been charged with a violation of the law which resulted in probation, community service, a jail sentence, or the revocation or suspension of your driver's license? That is how it is wrote word for word. I did do community service and I have been on probation also had fines to pay, I did all of that. Since I have been seeing this Doctor I have not been any any trouble at all and more important I have not don't any harm to myself as I had in the past. For the first time in my life I enjoy being alive, I talked to my son who is in a collage in another state and he said that they had all the students criminal records so that anyone can see them. I know that I did wrong but I know that I did what the courts told me to do, I never hurt anyone pyschically just financially and I am sorry for it all. I just want to know how long they keep records? Is this forever

I am happy you are alive and well. Just tell the truth, and getting a doctor's note would even increase your acceptance. I for one, am very proud of you for getting the help you need, and taking responsibility for your actions. You were sick at the time and deserve a 2nd chance. If you were a minor at the time the records are sealed,so no one can know. Also depends on where you live. It will all work out for you, I just know it!!
