Catnip is actually part of the mint family. I do know it makes a calming tea. Gave my cat mint tea bags and has a similar effect as catnip.

I am an avid weed (crippy) smoker. I ran out last night and smoked one bowl of catnip. It did not come close to the same effects of weed. It smelled/tasted like ass and made me feel run-down and fatigued. I laid in bed for hours until my dog forced me to take her outside. Today, I feel terrible, far worse then I have ever felt after a night of smoking, heavily.

My throat hurts and now my pipe has catnip stuffed in it. I would have never done it, if not for reading on this website that it works. Please spare yourself this experience and do not believe comments that imply its a smart thing to do.

why the hell wold you even smoke it to see if the effect is the same as for a cat? When's the last time you saw a cat smoking it? If you were trying to see if it worked for humans, wouldn't you just eat it or rub it around your face?

Yes catnip can get a human mildly high and euphoric I just smoked some and drank some tea it works, I've done it lots of times it really does work, it's best to smoke it out of a bong something with water. And don't think the gov doesn't know about it the gov uses it as medicinal use as they do with weed. Catnip helps with depression, muscle relaxations, relaxes arteries, helps menstrual cramps, stomach aches, head aches and more. It's very helpful and the gov thinks its good to drink it as a tea or smoke it in a pipe. And your not that high so you can still drive. It opens ones mind and helps with thinking issues. I bought the pure 100% organic catnip at walmart thats the most potent one and it works the best. Trust me it's worth trying I do it a lot, o and the gov grows it too but there finding away to make it even more potent and it will still be legal! Anything done in moderation is fine

Firstly, to the user Jon Hicks, I would suggest that you check your facts before you post an answer to a question such as this, as you are spouting absolute nonsense.

Humans can, in fact, get an effect from catnip - it does in fact have herbal medicinal uses.

When made into a tea, it can be used in a topical poultice to reduce the swelling in soft tissue injuries and arthiritis. It also has a sedative effect (varying with strength of the tea). For instance - I often use it in conjunction with Melatonin capsules to relieve my insomnia.

Also, some reports suggest that when taken in larger amounts (smoked or drank), it can produce mild hallucinogenic effects and a feeling of being "high".

So in short - yes, you can get get high from smoking catnip. But it is not the same high as cannabis or other drugs, as with most different substances it has a different type of high to itself.

Well I in fact just smoked some catnip and like some1 said up there I dnt feel high like I do on weed I just dnt feel normal I feel a lil buzzed but it took alot. Like at least a 3/4 of a dime. I wuz jus bored n I had a lot of catnip n I wanted 2 try out my new homemade bong (it didn't work the best but it worked) n I had been wanton 2 try it so I wuz like wat the hell. after reading many of the comments on this ? I decided to try it out for myself and can honestly say that after smoking a j mixed 1/2 & 1/2 w/tobacco & catnip I don't feel normal .. I don't feel like i smoked pot but I certainly don't feel normal...

Leaves of this mint herb were used in a tea by the early Europeans for cramps, aches, fevers and fits. They also chewed on the leaf for headache relief. The Chinese used it for chest complaints and believed it attracted good spirits and happiness. Catnip was the beverage of choice in Europe before tea was introduced from Asia. And believe it or not, it was even smoked to treat asthma and bronchitis!

thanks to catnip i hav reduced my smoking down from a pack a day to 1 enjoyable modded cigarette a day.

what i do is similar to what someone else mentioned, empty the cigarette's tobacco, mix one portion of tobacco to one portion of catnip. catnip potentiates the nicotine in the tobacco/filler.

it helps relax me and since i hav insomnia make a catnip tea as well. i grow both catnip and catmint in my garden and i find the catnip tea is more calming than either catmint or chamomile teas!

by the way i smoked marijuana 3 times back in college and it gave me no hallucinogenic effects. just made me feel like my brain was numb/soft and giggly for a few minutes then i puked.

i find catnip and salvia divinorum tea excellent legal, natural mood modifiers without any side effects for me.

smoking stuff still is not good for your lungs so don't do it. if u do smoke (whatever) do it at bare minimum please, stay healthy. well, hope my humble experience helps.

From what I've read about catnip, it looks like it does have some desirable properties, but some bad one's too. Every product on the market has undergone some sort of evaluation or testing(minimal sometimes in the cases of herbal or homeopathic). However, most modern testing done in this case has been in animal studies. Historically it has been used in humans for its sedative effects, but was also used to treat cold/fever's, GI problems, even arthritis. Smoking it like most things I imagine would come with undesirable affects to your throat and lungs. Classically it was taken as a tea in 4gram doseages when used for sedation.

But now guys... can't say i'm not familiar with substances like pot and such, and the desire to use them. But if your in a spot where u wanna get high so bad your rollin up the catnip... need i say more ;).

Yes, catnip can definitely get humans high. I just smoked a bowl of it in the name of science, and right now, i feel great. I have a bit of a weed-like high, but most of what I feel is simply lightheadedness. Just got a ghost hit lol.

my parents grow their own catnip out in the garden so i figured what the hell so i broke off a little, rolled a Joint and smoked it and it did not do a damn thing. don't try this as the side effects are not to be known... it might do more damage to your lungs than weed, and weed actually gets you high.

I really dont know if you can get high from catnip BUT i have bipoler ADHD and insomnea and they all feed off of each other and make it imposible for me to sleep at night or any time. I have tried EVERY sleeping med known to man and NONE work! So i take a pinch or two of dried catnip put it in my mouth and let it sit on my tounge for about a minute or two then swallow it and take my pills with in an hr i have calmed down enough to be able to go to sleep. i get high off of smoking catnip on a daily basis. i normally get a huge boost of energy for an hour then i drift into a more sedative state. as soon as i start feeling tired, i light up again, and will continue to do this fo a few hours until im ready to go to bed. at that point i will sleep like a rock, and wake up more refreshed then i would otherwise. i have been ssmoking it out of an old school style tobacco pipe, just like the one my grampa used to use. now im trying to find good ways to mix it with my food, like what im eating right now is a cheese pizza with catnip sprinkled all over it.

ok first off. catnip, for cats only, is a hallucinogen. it releases an unhealty level of a chemical that would usually kill the cat. but some cats do not have effects from it i.e. older cats or younger kittens.

And as far as humans getting high from catnip, well if you heard you couldn't that's not true. catnip is a natural sedative, some people may not notice the effects unless they did alot, but you can actually get a mild marijuana like high from it.

But there are ways around smoking that much catnip, you can just empty a ciggarette mix half catnip and half the tabbacco from the ciggarette and repack it using a pencil. I'd recomend 2 ciggarettes, but you can definatley notice just after one. IMPORTANT: if your not going to grow your own and your going to buy from the store, read the back, make sure that its only 100% catnip. And if its organically grown,, even better. if it has seeds or stems dont worry, the best catnips to my experience are the ones that have had more seeds and parts of the flower.

Catnip can help with stomach aches. Eating small amounts actually helps. (don't confuse cat nip with its actually lethal counterpart that looks almost the same... but if you do, you won't have to worry about it ever again!)

In conclusion you can smoke it. it's not going to give you a high like the narcotic "Marijuana" but it will relax a a human. if made into a tincture ("NOT A TEA")it will help with cold symptoms. if you would like to make a tincture consolt a herbologist or a herb medical book.

if you are looking for a real relaxed feeling try kava root. it is easy to get on the internet no need to ruin your lungs smoking catnip. but if you are gonna smoke for a legal high try salvia leaves. if will really fuck you up.

Also for the sake of science i smoked a bit out of my bong. The taste is definitely better then mostly anything else I've decided to throw in my bong, its got a minty flavor kind of to it. The effects are similar to weed but not as potent. Also the effects are slightly different too. I didn't really smoke enough to say much about it but i don't think i'm ganna be smoking cat nip on a regular basis it was a fun one time thing though :D.

Yes. It's all about what you use with it. If you want to stay legal, half a beer, and catnip smoked and drunken. You will definitely feel something a lot like weed. At least that's my experience with it. Just plain old catnip won't do anything but with the other stuff and maybe even tobacco it's awesome stuff.

First off, catnip can't kill kitties because they naturally don't like it after awhile, so it's like a built in overdose prevention program. Secondly, if you are a smoker and smoke weed a lot, you'll need a LOT of catnip to feel anything (like 2 blunts), and yes, you will feel something, although it is different than a weed high. I smoked everyday for years and then my city ran outta weed and i started to smoke catnip because my friend said it got her high and is like $5 for a half (which in human weed is like $50). I like it, but get the REAL catnip, not dried dirt. The nepetalactone in catnip is no more dangerous than tea leaves. Hope that helps!
