  • I would say, try something that he is really into like on TV. Such as bob the builder or something. if not, pirate or car themes always go down well. Even parties without themes are great, get a clown in or lots of balloons or something, because to be fair, its not like your son will remember his first birthday party, right?
  • A themed party sounds so exciting! Recently I took my son to a elmo-themed birthday party where they put up a tv that played a musical snapshow made from digital pictures of their child's first year. The snapshow was professionally made and was beautifully choreographed to music, with elmo and his gang dancing all around in the video. They had got it done from http://www.smilingsnaps.com/samplesreviews.html and it was so touching- I had never seen anything like that before!! I am planning to do something similar for my kid's upcoming birthday- not only will it be fun in the party, but the DVD will be a permanent keepsake which my son would love to see when he grows up! Hope this helps.
  • We are doing Yo Gabba Gabba, which happens to be the hardest theme to find party decor for. But, we found invitations and games at nickjr.com. He loves that show and even though I know he probably won't remember his first birthday, we will..and i want it to be special.
  • French Revolution....someone could be Robespierre, someone could be Marie Antoinette, the crazy knitting lady repeating "Guillotine, guillotine!!", etc.....
