  • I'm sorry. I am coping with the same issue and my doctor tells me it's because of my stress/anxiety/depression that causes me to have night terrors. The only thing I find that works for me is sleeping pills, they let you sleep without dreaming. I also leave the bathroom light on so it's not totally dark - it's a comfort if you're startled into a fearful wake from a terrible dream.
  • Are the nightmares always the same? Do you eat anything just before bed? Are you anxious about anything? I have recurring "anxiety" dreams..there are only two and they always have the same theme. I don't like 'em, but I live with them..happens every several months. What kind are yours? :)
  • I don't know, to be honest. I just want to support you and encourage you to talk to your doctor because not sleeping well really inhibits your immune system from functioning correctly. As human beings, we think, reason, and cope with emotions better with a good night's rest. Living with nightmares is too big of a compromise, and I hope you do something to alleviate your distress.
  • You need to see your family doctor and discuss this with her/him. He can assess the situation and refer you to a counselor, prescribe appropriate meds. You are going to really injure your health if you don't follow though to solve this!!!

  • This should help you: Once you realize your in a bad dream, know that you can do what ever you want. You can easily over power your attacker. Beat him to a bloody pulp. You will find it very easy to do. Once you defeat him he will not come back. The challenge is "knowing that your in a dream". Most people can't do this, however most people that have repeat-vivid dreams can. PS Doctors can't help you with this problem. They will only give you presciptions that will make the dreams worse once you stop taking the pills.
  • I think Coppermine's on the right track. Have you ever heard of "lucid dreaming"? You can learn to take charge of your dreams, you know, while you're in them. You must be angry at whatever it is that is causing this problem. Once you learn how to take control inside your dreams, channel that anger against what's making you afraid and kick some ass.   • Keep a dream journal beside your bed. When a dream wakes you up write it down. It’s best to start at the point where the dream woke you and work backward, you’ll remember more that way. What I think is happening is this, our deep subconscious mind, that remains active while we sleep, was fully developed before we learned to speak. This level of our minds is far more intuitive of things around us than we are consciously, and when it has a need to tell us something it does so with images and not words, and then wakes us up. In the morning read the dream. Ask yourself what do these images mean to me? I personally believe we are the best people to interpret our own dreams. It is after all, your mind communicating with you. A very interesting aside, when you have kept your journal for several weeks you will realize that about 5% of your dreams are prophetic, as in, the things you dreamt will happen the next day or the day after. I don’t understand how the mind does this but it is amazing.
