I doubt it. I don't think that they would have had the ability to pull off such a stunt back then and I don't think that you would have been able to fool people any more then as you can now. But as ol' Lincoln said, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can never fool all of the people all of the time."
