  • It's good to be feeling and sensitive, but there is a downside: life is full of sharp edges, and to be alive enough to feel those edges sometimes seems like a liability. We all need to withdraw sometimes and protect ourselves -- as long as it doesn't become a permanent mode of being, no problem. But why do you have "tough" and "practical" lumped together? One can be both sensitive and practical... in fact, I would argue you can't actually be practical unless you're sensitive, because practical suggests the ability to get things done efficiently -- something that isn't possible without being able to *sense* what the situation needs. So "tough" is mostly useful as a temporary reprieve in painful situations, it's harmful as a permanent mode of operation, and "practical" depends on your sensitivity in order to operate. In my opinion, of course :)
  • I hear what your saying. I would give anything to be less sensitive. I dwell on things I can't possibly control. Children being abused, elderly being mistreated, animal neglect, starvation , homeless etc. I wish I were tough too. I wish those things were eradicated from the face of the earth.
  • You are what you are and if we were all the same wouldn't life be boring? I know that dosn,t help much but people who seem to be tough on the outside are usually putting a front on and suffer from the same insecurities as everyone else.
  • thats how you are. i'm the same way. I am very very emotional and everything affects me greatly. I am what they call a Highly Sensitive Person. You can Google that. Also I take Zoloft, not because I have depression severely but I do often get hurt feelings and it helps me.
  • Unfortunately, it takes a lot of hurt to be tough and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
