You get a message that says: "We're sorry, but you have given too many positive ratings to this member recently. We prevent this to maintain the integrity of our ratings system."

After you have rated a user positive so many times, the administrators at AB automatically block you from rating that user positive for a number of days. This is to help maintain the integrity of the ratings.

If you rate someone positively or negatively too many times, you are prevented from rating them again for a period of time. This is in place to stop people from repeatedly rating people up just because they are their friends or rating people down because they dislike them.

Its an automated bit of logic in the system to prevent abuses. I call it "the Rating Police". It clearly serves a purpose, but its not very intelligent -- it can't distinguish between someone who's abusing and someone who is not. It can be quite frustrating when you encounter a wonderful answer and are "out of rating points". The general consensus among people who know each other well is to just supply positive comments instead. Many people eventually give up saying "I can't rate you", because everybody knows we're all in the same boat a lot.
